Reed Mangels, RDN PhD LDN FADA, presents at P-POD with the support of the Speakers Bureau of the Vegetarian Nutrition Dietetic Practice Group of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.  She has taught for over a decade in the Nutrition Department of the University of Massachusetts Amherst, and holds the position of Adjunct Associate Professor.  She was co-author of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (formerly American Dietetic Association) Position Papers on Vegetarian Diets published in 2003 and 2009, and co-author of “The Dietitian’s Guide to Vegetarian Diets (2nd and 3rd editions)”.  She has authored or co-authored 17 nutrition-related articles and studies in peer-reviewed journals, and has served as a reviewer for 9 such journals.  She has written chapters for 6 textbooks in technical fields, as well as co-authoring books for the general public such as “The Everything Guide to Vegetarian Pregnancy” and “Simply Vegan”.

Reed has served the Vegetarian Nutrition Dietetic Practice Group in many capacities for years:  as Chair, for 5 years as editor of its publication Vegetarian Nutrition Update, as Fact Sheet Committee Chair, as Nominating Committee Chair, and as a member of its Speakers Bureau.  She has also long served as Nutrition Advisor for the educational nonprofit Vegetarian Resource Group, as well as the nutrition editor and a regular columnist for its quarterly publication, Vegetarian Journal.  She has also received the Distinguished Dietitian Award from Dietitians for Professional Integrity, and on two occasions the Award of Excellence in Service and Leadership from Vegetarian Nutrition Dietetic Practice Group.
