Julia M.W. Wong, RD PhD, is currently an Instructor in Pediatrics at Harvard Medical School, and a Research Associate and Metabolic Nutrition Scientist at the New Balance Foundation Obesity Prevention Center, Boston Children’s Hospital. She is supported by a Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) RCT Mentored Training Grant. Dr. Wong was trained as a Registered Dietitian, and completed her PhD in Nutritional Sciences at the University of Toronto, and a postdoctoral fellowship at Boston Children’s Hospital. She has authored or co-authored 25 articles in peer-reviewed scientific journals, dealing with the influence of various dietary components and factors upon glycemic response and control, inflammation markers, hematologic risk factors for coronary heart disease, serum lipid profiles generally, blood pressure, body weight, and other health status indicators. She is the lead author of 4 such articles about the influence of diet / gut microbiota interactions upon cardiometabolic outcomes, or the influence of colonic fermentation upon lipid metabolism.
Dr. Wong is also currently a member of the Editorial Board of the Canadian Journal of Dietetic Practice and Research, and has at various times served as a reviewer for 8 peer-reviewed scientific journals and for the Canadian Foundation for Dietetic Research. She has received numerous research awards and recognitions for her presentations at both national and international conferences. Her current research focuses on (1) the mismatch between “modern” diets and human metabolism, resulting in the rise in incidence of chronic diseases (such as obesity, cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes), and (2) the development of novel dietary interventions to prevent and treat these metabolic complications.
